MAISONETTE FLAT, St John's Wood

Within a Georgian townhouse in the residential street Carlton Hill, lived a three bed flat that was entered through a twisting stairway. The redesign of this flat hinged on an entry way that opened wide before the visitor and cut open the separation between entry and living areas. The twisting of the walls gave certain definition to the living area, the entry and the kitchen and allowed for a simple redefinition of the family’s living space.

The restored fireplace is a cut across the wall leading from the kitchen. While the formerly unusable area in the eaves of the roof are appropriated as extra ceiling height in the living areas and serve as hidden pockets for heating and lighting.
