International Competition: 2001• Architects: Lida Charsouli, Nathaniel Kolbe

The New England Biolaboratory required a new headquarters in Ipswich, Massachusetts. An open, international competition was held to organize an architectural response to a dynamic and growing company. The site for the new building was settled between a pair of historic farmhouses that were connected via a large hillside. The building used the entire hillside as a series of platforms further extending the existing contours of the land. By pulling those same contours we were able to produce an unique research facility that would engage with the natural surroundings and allow the historic buildings a proper juxtaposition with the new world.
